A snake not behind glass

Submitted by chris on Sun, 11/09/2008 - 22:06.

The Healesville Sanctuary is a branch of the Melbourne Zoo, out in the hills to the east. There one can find plenty of Australian fauna and flora without having to head out into the bush to find it. We headed up there on Sunday of my first weekend in Belgrave, a week after I'd arrived in Australia. I've got a decent selection of photos from there in the gallery, so have a look. The highlight of that day would have to have been one of the snakes that we saw.

Day-to-day vacation

Submitted by chris on Sun, 11/09/2008 - 22:01.

My time in Belgrave has included two full weekends, and some of the family activities I've been partaking in have included a trip to the Healesville Sanctuary (more on that later), an couple of visits to local parks, and a morning at Grant's Picnic Ground, just a half-mile or so up the road.

Victorian Times

G'day again from down undah! Yes indeed I've been in Australia for 15 days now, mostly here in Belgrave, about 25 miles east of downtown Melbourne at the end of one of the public-transit train lines.  I've been visiting Larkin, one of my sisters from my New Zealand host-family of 25 yrs ago, and her partner Andrea, and their three-year-old twins Finn & Poppy.

ninjakitty.org front page screenshotI recently was told through the grapevine that my friends Aurelia and her husband Brian (now living back home in Adelaide) have not only a blog and website of their their artworks, but also now have a lovely baby boy!!!  So it looks like my 'babies everywhere' post a while back is still in full force.  Is anyone else I know out there actively procreating these days?

Babies babies everywhere!

Birthday & Bread

Submitted by chris on Mon, 02/19/2007 - 21:14.

This past Thursday was my birthday.
Rather than having anything big and formal or I invited a bunch of
friends over after work for beer and pizza and whisky.  It worked out
great and a fun time was had by all. Pixar folks and non-pixar folks
alike.  We managed to kick the keg of Sunny Day IPA (it was only 1/2
full to start with) and put a good dent in the other beers.  I recieved
some wonderful gifts, including hand-made cards from the kids next
door, and now my alcohol collection is even larger than before!

My friend & coworker Ling has arrived safely in Greece and posted her first blog updates to her site hosted here at The Den)  She sounded tired but happy when I chatted with her briefly a few mintues ago. I'm looking forward to hearing about her adventures  around the Mediterranean for four months.

New Site mostly done!

Whew! After 3 weeks of learning a lot about Drupal, I think the website
is now in a stable state.  At least, I don't think I'll make any big
design changes anytime soon Smiling
